KUCHING, March 11: All 31 Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) divisions in Sarawak have backed a motion for the president’s post to remain uncontested at the upcoming party elections in May.
According to a statement issued today, Sarawak PKR information chief Abun Sui Anyit said this is to allow PKR president Anwar Ibrahim to focus on his duties as prime minister.
“All divisions in Sarawak have unanimously proposed that Anwar remains unchallenged for the party presidency, allowing him to secure the position unopposed and to focus on governing Malaysia as prime minister,” he said.
The Hulu Rajang divisional chief said the decision followed the respective annual general meetings (AGMs) of the party’s divisions in the State, which began earlier this month and concluded on March 9.
He added that this year’s elections are expected to be competitive as many members are also contesting for leadership positions at the national and divisional levels.
At the same time, he reminded those contesting to adhere to ethics and discipline and to avoid slander and personal attacks. — DayakDaily
