Sarawak opens doors to global investors, tech partners to explore, support energy projects

KUCHING, June 5: Sarawak has extended an open invitation to global investors and technology partners to explore and support sustainable energy projects in the State, signalling its readiness to foster growth and innovation in the renewable energy sector.

The call was made by Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Sarawak (MEESty), Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, during a high-impact interactive interview session at the Energy Exports Conference (EEC) 2025 in Aberdeen, Scotland on Wednesday (June 4).

According to a media release, the session served as a key platform for unveiling Sarawak’s ambitious clean energy vision and its strategic roadmap to becoming a regional leader in renewable energy.

In his remarks, Dr Hazland emphasised Sarawak’s leadership role in Asean’s transition to a low-carbon future, outlining major investments in hydropower, hydrogen production, and green infrastructure as the backbone of its drive towards net-zero emissions.

“Public-private partnerships, technological innovation, and international collaboration are crucial to accelerating the global energy transition,” he said.

The dynamic session allowed delegates from around the world to engage directly with Dr Hazland on Sarawak’s policies, export potential, and the State’s various renewable initiatives.

His participation highlighted Sarawak’s proactive stance on climate action and its determination to serve as a model for green growth in Southeast Asia.

Datuk Dr Hazland’s presence at EEC 2025 also underscored Sarawak’s rising profile on the international energy stage, fostering vital international partnerships and showcasing the Sarawak unwavering commitment to a sustainable energy future.

His delegation included a distinguished 12-member team comprising top-level Sarawak officials including Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Economic Planning & Development) Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, Sarawak Financial Secretary Dato Sri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) Mayor Dato Hilmy Othman, Senior Sarawak Counsel Dr Jady @ Zaidi Hassim, and senior representatives from Sarawak Energy Berhad and SEDC Energy.
