KUCHING, Oct 10: Sarawak needs at least RM30 billion annually for the next 20 years to be developed on par with Malaya, says Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) president Voon Lee Shan.

He said what Sarawak got annually for the past 59 years hardly exceeded RM5 billion except in Budget 2023.

“Despite that, this is unjustified because it is speculated Sarawak contributes no less than RM100 billion every year to the national coffers.

“The contribution to national coffers from our oil and gas was always the main source of revenue to keep Malaysia afloat.

“Sarawak should not be the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) for Malaya anymore,” he said in a statement today.

Voon also questioned Democratic Action Party (DAP) MPs from Sarawak for not filing the necessary proposals with the Finance Minister on the allocations needed to develop Sarawak.

“Had this been done, perhaps, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) would work on their proposals and come up with better allocations for Sarawak.

“Sarawak badly needs funds to improve the infrastructure for rural areas. Unless being informed through proposals, the Finance Minister and his Ministry may not know that infrastructure in rural areas should be improved,” Voon said. — DayakDaily
