KUCHING, Oct 10: The Sarawak government will develop a new area in Gedong which is located across the Batang Sadong river, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Abang Johari who is Gedong assemblyman noted that the first thing he did after he won the constituency seat in the 12th Sarawak Election was to transform Gedong into a full district.

“And three weeks ago, the Sarawak Cabinet has approved the proposal to establish Gedong District Council which will assist us in implementing development plans in Gedong.

“Today, we have just started and we will build a new area in Gedong which is located ‘seberang sungai’ (across the river) and this will lead to Ulu Gedong, and then Simunjan and entering the Samarahan area up to Sebuyau, Lingga and the coastal areas.

“So this is our approach because we are committed on bringing blessings to this district,” he said during the closing ceremony of the district-level Maulidur Rasul Celebration at Dewan Datuk Patinggi Ali in Gedong today.

Amongst those present were Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture-cum-Batang Sadong MP Dato Sri Nancy Shukri; Simunjan assemblyman Awla Dris; and former Gedong assemblyman Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais. — DayakDaily
