KUCHING, Feb 9: Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) has a broad role in transforming Sarawak towards digitisation, says SMA general manager Ts Dr Zaidi Razak.
According to a press release by SMA, Zaidi emphasised that SMA’s role is not limited to telecommunications—in fact, SMA has developed 154 initiatives which support Sarawak’s digitisation agenda.
He explained that 64 of the 154 initiatives were developed entirely by SMA, while the rest were created in collaboration with various government and private agencies in Sarawak.
“We are extremely proud to have received the London Innovation Award in London through the creation of the iSarawakCare application, which integrates multiple applications through digitisation.
“The irony is that, in principle, we were able to change the way one ministry works to another digital platform where applicants can access their application from start to finish,” he said.
Zaidi made the remarks yesterday (Feb 8) during a ceremony in conjunction with a courtesy visit by the Sarawak State Public Service Commission (Spans), led by its chairman, Datu Dr Sabariah Putit, to the SMA office.
In the meantime, Zaidi disclosed that other initiatives developed by SMA include the Sarawak ID application, which has 881,538 registered users to date.
“The Sarawak government offers a variety of services through Sarawak ID, while also unifying government and private sector services.
“In fact, other states in Malaysia want to develop Sarawak ID in a similar fashion, but we have not yet been successful because the application requires a single sign-on,” he added.
In addition to other infrastructure developments developed by SMA, Zaidi stated that another Digital Innovation Hub has been established and is operational in Kapit.
Therefore, he hoped that young people will take advantage of opportunities to engage with digital services provided by SMA. — DayakDaily
