Following a working visit to Takasago Hydrogen Park in Tokyo, Japan, Abang Johari stated, “The strategic discussions between Sarawak’s delegation and Mitsubishi Power’s leadership focused on exploring cooperation opportunities and initiatives to strengthen Sarawak’s hydrogen ecosystem.”

The Premier was accompanied by Sarawak Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, Deputy Minister of International Trade and Investment Datuk Dr Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, Sarawak Attorney General Dato Sri Saferi Ali, Sarawak Financial Secretary Dato Sri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, and Deputy Secretary for Economic Planning and Development Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel.

This visit to the hydrogen facility marked a significant step in aligning Sarawak’s hydrogen ambitions with Mitsubishi Power’s cutting-edge technology.

During the visit, Abang Johari and his delegation explored the integrated hydrogen value chain at the facility, gaining valuable insights into next-generation hydrogen production technologies and the hydrogen combustion verification process in advanced gas turbines.

This historic visit reflected the shared commitment between Sarawak and Mitsubishi Power to advance the hydrogen ecosystem and build local capacity to support the Sarawak’s energy ambitions.

Meanwhile, Takuya Murase, senior general manager of the GTCC Business Division at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd (MHI), expressed his pleasure in welcoming Abang Johari to Takasago Hydrogen Park.

He noted that the visit aligns with Sarawak’s plans to develop a hydrogen-based economy, with Mitsubishi Power committed to providing technological expertise and support.

Furthering its commitment to Sarawak’s energy development, Mitsubishi Power recently supplied a 500MW hydrogen-capable gas turbine to the Miri Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) Power Plant, a project by Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros).

This project, which began in October 2024, features a turbine capable of burning fuel with up to 30 per cent hydrogen, making it the most advanced power generation facility in Sarawak.

Takasago Hydrogen Park, developed in 2022, integrates hydrogen production, storage, and utilisation technologies in one location. Hydrogen combustion equipment testing is conducted at the T-Point 2 combined-cycle power plant verification facility, designed to support long-term testing of new technologies.
