Sarawak ministry signs MoU with Fujian dept to collaborate in tourism, culture, arts

KUCHING, May 13: Sarawak’s Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with China’s Fujian Provincial Department of Cultural and Tourism at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.

MTCP was represented by its Minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, while the Department was represented by its director-general Lin Xiangdong.

Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian were present to witness the ceremony.

The MoU aimed to form a strategic cooperation in tourism, culture, and arts in deepening both parties’ sister province-state relationship and creating more opportunities for both people of Sarawak and Fujian.

Another MoU was also signed between Kuching South City Council (MBKS) and the Quanzhou City of China to maintain close ties between the two cities and enhance further collaboration in areas of economic, cultural, education and tourism, among others.

Prior to the MoU signing ceremony, the Fujian delegation, led by CPC Fujian Provincial Committee secretary Zhou Zuyi, also paid a courtesy call to the Premier.

The Fujian delegation included CPC Fujian Provincial Committee deputy secretary-general Zhou Kuanfen; director-general of the Foreign Affairs Office of Fujian Provincial People’s Government, Li Lin; director-general of Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Fujian Provincial People’s Government, Huang Jinfa; director-general of Fujian Provincial Department of Commerce, Huang Heming; and Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kuching, Xing Weipin. — DayakDaily
