KUCHING, May 8: Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah describes King Charles III as “chatty” and “friendly” when recounting the latter’s visit to Sarawak in 2017.
Abdul Karim, who is presently in London, said this in a live video following the launch of London Craft Week by Malaysia’s Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah at the Malaysian High Commission embassy yesterday (May 7).
Abdul Karim, who was there for the launch, said London has been in a festive mood as the coronation of King Charles III was held on May 6, where heads of state of more than 100 countries, including Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, were in London for the coronation and other events.
“King Charles visited Sarawak in 2017, and at that time, I was the minister-in-charge, and I was with him for the whole day.
“He was very chatty and friendly towards the people, and when His Majesty came to Kuching, he was brought to visit the Sarawak Cultural Village, Semenggoh Wildlife Centre, and Sarawak Biodiversity Centre before heading back to the United Kingdom,” said Abdul Karim.
Meanwhile, on London Craft Week, Abdul Karim described it as a meaningful event for those involved in the craft industry.
He said London Craft Week started in 2015. This year, from his gathers, there were more than 700 artisans involved, where craft product exhibitions are held at the Malaysia High Commission and other high commissions and embassies. — DayakDaily
