Sarawak Microelectronics Design, Melexis NV, Synopsis Intl to conduct chip-design training on Nov 14

KUCHING, Nov 9: Sarawak Microelectronics Design (SMD) in collaboration with Melexis NV (Melexis) and Synopsis International (Synopsis) are facilitating the Sarawak government in holding a train-the-trainer programme on Nov 14, 2023.

According to a report by TVS, four courses will be offered namely Analog Integrated Circuit (IC) Design, Analog IC Layout, IC Testing, and Wafer Fabrication which aims to produce 500 professionals by 2030.

The training which are essential in meeting the industryā€™s needs and will contribute effectively to Sarawak which is in need of qualified trainers in the fast-evolving semiconductor and chip design industry.

At the Pre-Event Press Conference of Train-The-Trainers: Talent Development in Semiconductors and Chip Design at a hotel in Kuching yesterday, Education, Innovation And Talent Development Deputy Minister Datuk Francis Harden Hollis said the programme is a significant initiative with its goal to nurture local talents and build a robust ecosystem in the semiconductor industry.

ā€œThe training modules, meticulously crafted by Melexis and Synopsys in consultation with SMD, ensure that the programme remains aligned with the swiftly evolving semiconductor landscape.

ā€œWith these experts, they will bring real-world experience, industry insights, and the latest technological advancements into the training program,ā€ TVS quoted Harden.

Harden added that SMD will be working with Centre of Technical Excellence Sarawak (CENTEXS) and Sarawak Skills, and connect Sarawakā€™s institution with professionals and experts from around the world.
