KUCHING, May 27: Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd (Sarawak Metro) has launched its ‘Green Initiative Campaign’ to bolster its commitment to environmental conservation.
The campaign commenced with a tree-planting event in Pending last Saturday (May 25), organised in collaboration with the Kuching South City Council (MBKS).
This tree planting initiative was a joint effort between Sarawak Metro and its contractor for the Red Line package of Phase 1 of the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project—a consortium comprising Sri Datai Construction (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd, JT JV Builders Sdn Bhd, and CHEC Construction (M) Sdn Bhd.
Commending Sarawak Metro, MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng recognised the challenge of ensuring Kuching remains a liveable city amidst its growth.
“As such, we have to always enhance the quality of life for the people of Kuching and on that note, what we are doing today can go a long way towards achieving our aspirations for a healthier and greener city,” he said when officiating at the event.
Wee also lauded Sarawak Metro for working closely with MBKS in implementing this campaign and looked forward to seeing more of such initiatives in the future.
“I hope this campaign will have a meaningful impact on the people living in the MBKS area, especially throughout the alignment of the KUTS project,” he added.
Sarawak Metro chief executive officer Ts Mazli Mustaffa stressed the importance of creating more green spaces through activities like tree planting to enhance the city’s landscape.
“While implementing this noble KUTS project, we are also inspired to ensure that the environment is being conserved and preserved for everyone to enjoy.
“This greening initiative is a big task but we are committed to contribute in our small way, to make a difference,” he said.
Mazli further explained that the Green Initiative Campaign aligns with Sarawak Metro’s efforts to enhance the social well-being of the communities it serves by beautifying the landscape along the KUTS project alignment. — DayakDaily
