KUCHING, Sept 13: Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd (Sarawak Metro) recently participated in the inaugural Malaysia Hydrogen Industry Alliance (MHIA) Stakeholders Engagement Workshop in Kuala Lumpur, alongside key players in the hydrogen industry.
The workshop, organised by NanoMalaysia Berhad (NMB), an agency under the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI), aimed to address the “Lack of Supply and Demand Awareness” within the hydrogen sector.
According to a media release, MHIA’s primary goal is to elevate Malaysia’s hydrogen industry by connecting local stakeholders across the value chain, transitioning it from a research-based to an innovation-driven ecosystem.
The workshop also sought to foster greater industry collaboration and ensure alignment between hydrogen producers and users.
Sarawak Metro’s deputy project director for the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS), Nor Nasyriq Shahirudin, represented the company at the event.
He remarked that the workshop was particularly significant in uniting key industry players from across Malaysia.
“The workshop was very timely, especially as this relatively young industry in Malaysia is developing fast, and with Sarawak playing a significant role in the industry’s growth.
“From Sarawak Metro’s perspective, this event provided a valuable platform to engage with other industry players to discuss the most pertinent issues facing the industry, including the challenges and the way forward for the industry as a whole,” he said.
Nasyriq also highlighted Sarawak Metro’s KUTS project, revealing that the future fleet of Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) vehicles and feeder buses will be powered by green hydrogen, which will be produced locally by SEDC Energy Sdn Bhd. — DayakDaily
