KUCHING, Nov 26: Sarawak will host the ‘Sarawak Media Games’ next year in conjunction with the 2025 National Journalists’ Day (Hawana) celebrations at the State-level.
In a news report by TVS, Deputy Minister in the Premier of Sarawak’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information, and Ukas) Datuk Abdullah Saidol highlighted that this event would be one of the main programmes organised by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) in 2025.
“Although Sarawak will not be the host of Hawan next year, we will use this annual celebration as a platform to unite and celebrate with the media community from across the country,” he said in his speech when officiating Ukas 2024 appreciation night on Sunday (Nov 24).
Abdullah also revealed that Ukas would be organising the 2025 Sarawak Media Conference (SMEC), an annual programme overseen by Ukas.
“We plan to expand it next year,” he added.
This year, Sarawak hosted the Hawan 2024 celebration with the theme ‘Core Ethics of Sustainable Journalism’.
A range of engaging programmes took place, including the Hawana 2024 Tour with Students, the Hawana 2024 Exhibition, and ‘Juh Raon’.
Meanwhile, Abdullah emphasised that Ukas must continue to enhance its role in facilitating two-way communication between the public and leaders on current issues and the development Sarawak.
“Ukas must serve as the channel for the people’s concerns, ensuring that these are conveyed to the leaders, so that every policy and strategy formulated by the Sarawak government is both accurate and aligned with the needs of the community,” he concluded. ā DayakDaily
