SIBU, Dec 18: Sarawak may look into adopting power-to-gas-to-power (P2G2P) technology under its green energy agenda, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He said through P2G2P, hydropower could be split to produce gas—oxygen and hydrogen.

“The hydrogen (gas) can be stored in a station and later can be converted into power again.

“This means power can be converted into gas and later, it could be converted back to power. This is a new theory about electricity,” he said when officiating at the opening ceremony for Selangau Riverfront and the Selangau District Office building here today.

Abang Johari further said that he has discussed to Sarawak Energy Berhad (Sarawak Energy) on the matter.

“We have hydropower and we are now implementing floating solar, producing hydrogen that can produce ammonia and gas, and these gases can be stored in power stations.

“Later, we can use the gas to convert it back into or to generate electricity.

“All these three can be implemented in Sarawak whereas the Middle East countries cannot implement these.

“This means our future is there. What we need left is for the younger generation to be capable in using this technology,” he added. — DayakDaily
