KUCHING, July 11: Sarawak has once again established itself as a high-income State based on the 2024 Gross National Income (GNI) per capita data released by the World Bank.
On his X account, World Bank’s Lead Economist for Malaysia, Apurva Sanghi, said that Sarawak recorded a GNI per capita of RM73,100, surpassing the high-income threshold set at RM63,800 annually.
Based on the data, which used the Atlas method, Sarawak ranked fourth, with the top three spots claimed by the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur (RM135,800), the Federal Territory of Labuan (RM86,700), and Penang (RM75,700), while surpassing Selangor (RM65,600).

The national average is RM53,400 per year, with Melaka and Negeri Sembilan sitting just above it at RM54,300 and RM53,700, respectively, followed by Pahang (RM49,400), Johor (RM44,600), Perak (RM38,800), Terengganu (RM32,300), Sabah (RM30,500), Kedah (RM27,200), Perlis (RM24,600), and Kelantan (RM17,300).
With this, Sarawak has maintained its high-income status for the third year in a row, having reached USD16,560 (about RM77,968) in 2023 and exceeding US$13,205 (about RM56,246) in 2022. — DayakDaily
