Sarawak logs 406 new Covid-19 infections, three deaths

KUCHING, April 5: Sarawak reported 406 new Covid-19 cases and three deaths today.

According to Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), one of the deaths involved an 89-year-old man from Kuching with no known illnesses. He passed away on April 1 and his remains were brought to Bau Hospital.

The other two deaths involve two women from Kuching who passed away on April 3. Both were 66-years-old. One had high blood pressure, diabetes, and chronic kidney disease and passed away at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), while the other had high blood pressure and diabetes whose remains were brought to SGH.


A total of 402 cases were in Categories 1 and 2, while four were in Categories 3, 4, and 5.

Of the new cases reported, 122 are in Category 1 (asymptomatic), and 280 are in Category 2 (mild symptoms).

The remaining four cases were classified as critical, with three Category 3 patients who have pneumonia and one Category 5 patient who needs a ventilator.

Kuching was the only district in the State reporting a triple-digit case increase at 118. Districts that recorded double-digit gains are Bintulu (65), Miri (57), Sibu (39), Samarahan (14), Sri Aman (14), and Serian (12).

Districts that recorded single-digit increases are Sarikei (9), Betong (9), Mukah (7), Tatau (7), Bau (6), Limbang (6), Saratok (6), Simunjan (4), Lubok Antu (4), Telang Usan (4), Kapit (3), Dalat (3), Beluru (3), Meradong (2), Pusa (2), Tanjung Manis (2), and Lawas (2) while Kabong, Marudi, Lundu, Daro, Asajaya, Subis, Kanowit, and Selangau recorded one case each.

The latest figures had pushed the State’s overall Covid-19 tally to 300,670 and the death toll to 1,694.
