Sarawak Legislative Assembly observes one-minute silence over Senate president Mutang Tagal’s passing

KUCHING, May 10: The Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) today observed a minute of silence in light of the passing of Dewan Negara Speaker Datuk Mutang Tagal who died this morning.

DUS Deputy Speaker Datuk Idris Buang made the announcement when the DUS sitting had just resumed around 2.45pm, after about a three-hour recess.


“Honourable Members, I have a small but very important announcement to make. (It is) With utmost sadness and regret that I want to announce that Dewan Negara Speaker, YB Datuk Mutang Tagal, had just passed away while the Dewan was hearing YB Tanjung Datu (Azizul Annuar Adenan) making his speech and while the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Malaysia (Irfan Davudov) was in the Dewan.

“It is humbly requested that all YBs and myself here show our greatest respect to the late Datuk Mutang Tagal by giving one minute of silence according to our individual and respective beliefs,” he said.

Mutang, 70, drew his last breath at 11.46am today after being hospitalised at the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur since May 6. — DayakDaily
