KUCHING, April 30: Sarawak has achieved a historic milestone with the introduction of KETEQ AI, the world’s first artificial intelligence-based power conversion device, developed entirely by Sarawakians.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg unveiled the groundbreaking technology during his official visit to the CSA Catapult facility in Cardiff, Wales yesterday. The KETEQ AI is an Edge AI Power Converter capable of detecting and correcting system disturbances automatically in under 0.1 milliseconds, making it one of the most responsive systems in smart control and power electronics globally.

According to a news report by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), the Premier highlighted this achievement as a key outcome of the Sarawak Semiconductor Roadmap 2030 and Beyond initiative, which aims to establish Sarawak as a regional high-tech hub.

“The development of this Edge AI Power Converter is more than just the result of policy, it is a game-changing catalyst for Sarawak. This innovation signifies a transformational leap in our technological landscape,” he said.

He further explained that the KETEQ AI project was initiated on April 23, 2024, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between SMD Semiconductor and CSA Catapult at the UK Parliament.

“This collaboration enables Sarawak to build a more sustainable innovation ecosystem that supports the growth of the local technology sector.

“This innovation not only promises high energy efficiency but is also designed to operate on a scalable basis with real-time response capabilities,” he added.

Abang Johari further pointed out that KETEQ AI’s Power Converter is being engineered for scalability, energy efficiency, and ultra-fast responsiveness, meeting the demands of future industries. Its applications span smart grids, electric vehicles, autonomous systems, industrial IoT, predictive maintenance, and mission-critical control systems.

He emphasised that the technology represents a significant advancement, showcasing Sarawak’s commitment to developing its own strategic technological capabilities.

During the introduction of KETEQ AI, SMD Semiconductor chief executive officer Shariman Jamil also conducted a live demonstration of the prototype, showcasing its ability to handle various complex operational scenarios.

The historic unveiling was attended by key dignitaries including Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Education, Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, and Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, among other officials. – DayakDaily
