KUCHING, July 29: Sarawak is looking into setting up a Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office (STATO) in Kalimantan.
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) report, a delegation from Sarawak, led by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, arrived in Pontianak on Monday (July 28) to continue his working visit to Kalimantan to promote trade and investment between both regions.
On arrival, the Deputy Premier conducted a site visit to two potential locations that could host the new STATO in Kalimantan.
When established, the new STATO in Kalimantan will serve as a strategic platform to promote Sarawak’s trade, investment, and tourism interests.
STATO is envisioned to facilitate business linkages, promote Sarawak’s cultural and natural assets, and support micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in expanding their market reach.
It will also serve as a conduit for talent development and collaborative initiatives aligned with Sarawak’s Post-Covid Development Strategy 2030.
The visit underscores Sarawak’s commitment to regional diplomacy and inclusive economic development, reinforcing its role as a proactive and connected player within the Borneo economic corridor.
Deputy Minister for Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development (Entrepreneur Development) Sarawak, Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat; Economic Planning Unit director, Datu Lester Mathew; and Ministry of International Trade, Industry, and Investment Sarawak permanent secretary, Dzulkornain Masron, were also present.
Also accompanying the delegation was Consul of the Malaysian Consulate in Pontianak, Indonesia, Azizul Zekri Abd Rahim. — DayakDaily
