Sarawak junior taekwondo athletes nab 13 medals at Milo Nat’l Taekwondo Championship 2023

KUCHING, Feb 21: Sarawak Taekwondo Association’s (WTF) young athletes have brought honour to Sarawak by winning 13 medals at the recent 13th Taekwondo Malaysia (WTF) NSC Milo National Taekwondo Championship 2023, held in Kuala Lumpur.

According to a press release, Sarawak WTF bagged five gold medals, two silver medals, and six bronze medals.

In sparring (Kyorugi), the young athletes who represented Sarawak WTF were Puteri Durratun Zulaikha Samat (Gold – Female Open Heavy Weight); Quraisyah Qadriyah Alffian, Syamimi Lee Xing; Chai Soon Hian (Bronze – Male Open Welterweight); and Mohamad Danish Haziq Mohamad Nasri and Jeffson Tang.


In patterns (Poomsae), the young athletes who represented Sarawak WTF were Fedealis Kom Twin (Gold – Male 15-17 years Individual); Velson Ki, Vincent Lim, Andy Wong; Nurul Hidayah Abdul Karim (Gold – Female 18-30 years Individual); Morren Urai Lian (Bronze – Female 18-30 years Individual); Zara Nur Zafirah (Bronze – Female 15-17 years Individual); Angellete Kee; Nurul Hidayah Abdul Karim, Nurul Humaira Abdul Karim, Nur Ifa Husna (Gold – Female 18-30 years Team); Fernando Emmanuel, Wisdom Ting, Richard Ting (Gold – Male 15-17 year Team); Sii Chong Soon, Phan Chen Wei, Phan Chen Huan, (Silver – Male 18-30 year Team); Dione Chen, Jessie Vanessa, Dini Amalia (Bronze – Female 15-17 years Team); Farah Nabila, Randy Owen (Bronze – Mix Pair 18-30 years); and Nur Ifa Husna, Ahmady (Bronze – Mix Pair 18-30 years).

The Sarawak WTF team was led by Grandmaster Tan Chek Joon who was assisted by team manager Master Pui Jak Joon, team coach Taeyoung Yun, and assistant coaches Tan Cheng Qiang, Purim Purint Aphiban, and Virtlam Umpau.

Sarawak WTF thanked Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) and Sarawak Sports Council (MSNS), as well as affiliated clubs and parents, for their helpful advice and unwavering support throughout the event.

Meanwhile, Sarawak WTF president Azizul Annuar Adenan was impressed with the young athletes’ performance, saying that they did very well in every bout to bring home medals for Sarawak.

“I am pleased with our Sarawak team’s overall performance. They made us proud and had registered an excellent performance on their games debut in Kuala Lumpur last week.

“Their total medal feat also led Sarawak team to the overall team victory in the ‘15-17-years-old’ category and the ‘18–30-years-old’ category respectively,” Azizul revealed. — DayakDaily
