Sarawak, Japan explore world-class aviation maintenance, repair, operations hub

KUCHING, Aug 14: Sarawak is exploring possible collaboration with Japan to establish a world-class Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) hub in the State, with Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Haji Awang Tengah Ali Hasan leading high-level discussions in Tokyo on Wednesday (Aug 13).

Awang Tengah, who is also Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment and Second Minister for Natural Resource and Urban Development, met with senior executives from Airport Facilities Co. Ltd., Airport Facilities Asia Pte Ltd, and JALUX Incorporated, as well as officials from Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) Civil Aviation Division.

According to a media release, both sides exchanged views on Sarawak’s strategic advantages for aviation investment, including its growing air connectivity, central location in Southeast Asia, and robust support for high-value industries during the meeting.

Awang Tengah stressed that the Sarawak government is committed to providing competitive incentives, fostering skilled workforce development, and investing in strategic infrastructure to create an enabling environment for foreign investors.

The engagement is part of Sarawak’s broader mission in Japan to strengthen trade, investment, and technology partnerships across key sectors, cementing the state’s position as a dynamic gateway to ASEAN. — DayakDaily
