KUCHING, July 17: Hotels in Sarawak are prepared to accommodate the estimated 10,000 guests who will attend the 2024 Malaysian Games (Sukma) next month.

According to a report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Sarawak Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, mentioned that this expectation is based on Sarawak’s ability to host 26,000 visitors during the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) last month.

“Considering that our hotels were able to handle such a large influx of guests during the RWMF over three days, welcoming 26,000 visitors, I believe we are well-prepared for Sukma,” he said during Ukas’ ‘Juh Randau’ programme held at Baitulmakmur building yesterday (July 16).

Ting further explained that organising Sukma presents significant economic opportunities not only in Kuching but across Sarawak.

“This time, we will see events organised outside Kuching as well, such as in Miri, which will host six categories.

“In doing so, we can attract visitors from Brunei Darussalam, thereby increasing the number of participants,” he said. — DayakDaily
