MUKAH, Aug 14: The Sarawak government is urged to take swift and decisive measures to increase the number of technical staff in all agencies to fast-track the implementation of projects worth RM1.5 billion in the Mukah Division under the Rajang Delta Development Agency (RADDA).

Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine highlighted that this initiative would not only accelerate project timelines but also create valuable employment opportunities for Sarawakians, allowing them to contribute their expertise across various fields.

“The communities in Mukah are eagerly anticipating the smooth execution of these projects, made possible through the collaboration and dedication of all involved agencies,” Royston remarked during his speech at the Leaders with the People gathering held at Kingwood Resort last night (Aug 13), which was also attended by Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Royston also underscored the transformative development taking place in Mukah, especially in the realm of education.

The division now boasts five institutions of higher learning and technical training: Mukah Polytechnic, UiTM Mukah, Centexs Mukah, Giat Mara Mukah, and the newly established University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) Laila Taib Mukah Campus.

“The presence of these institutions is a significant advantage for our anak Sarawak, enabling them to pursue their education locally without the financial strain of travelling outside the region,” he said.

He further noted the ongoing progress of the 137-kilometre coastal road project, which includes the construction of three vital bridges connecting Mukah to Bintulu. With a budget of RM1.614 billion, this project is expected to reach completion by 2025.

“The Batang Igan, Paloh, and Muara Lassa bridges will serve as critical links, dramatically reshaping the infrastructure landscape of this coastal region upon their completion,” Royston added.

Royston also expressed his gratitude to Abang Johari for approving several high-impact projects, including the Mukah waterfront development, valued at RM60 million, and the rehabilitation of the Batang Mukah riverbank, between Penakub River and Tellian River, with a budget of RM40 million. Both projects are slated to begin next year. — DayakDaily
