KUCHING, Mar 23: The Sarawak Government has placed an order of two million face masks which will be distributed free to Sarawakians through the State Disaster Management Committee.
These free masks may also be obtained from the resident offices and district offices.
“Now we have placed order from China, for two million face masks and we are going to give them free to Sarawakians,” said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg in a press conference to announce the “Sayaingku Sarawak” Financial package today.
Abang Johari said the face masks will arrive Kuching in one-week’s time.
Some areas such as Kuching, Sibu, Betong and Serian which have been classified as Covid-19 critical areas will be given the priority in terms of face mask distribution, Abang Johari added.
On hand sanitisers, he said as doctors have advised that washing hands with soaps frequently may also kill the virus, he called on Sarawakians to wash their hands often.
Abang Johari said global economy has come to a slowdown due to US-China trade war and it has been worsen by Covid-19 pandemic where many countries were forced to issue lockdown order.
Both the global economic slowdown and Covid-19 outbreak have negative impacted Sarawak’s economy and the wellbeing of its people.
In view of this, the Sarawak government has announced a 16-measure Sayangku Sarawak special financial package to mitigate the negative impacts and to enhance the wellbeing of Sarawakians.
All present at the press conference were all three Deputy Chief Ministers including Datuk Seri Douglas Uggah Embas, Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan as well as Education, Science and Technological Research Minister Dato Sri Michael Manyin.— DayakDaily
