KUCHING, Dec 2: A total of 43 per cent of Sarawak government projects valued over RM100,000 have been awarded to Bumiputera contractors to date, exceeding the targeted number of 30 per cent, says Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

He said this is part of the Sarawak government’s efforts to develop genuine and competitive Bumiputera contractors in the State.

“To date, the value of work (packages) for more than about RM100,000 awarded to Bumiputera contractors are 43 per cent with a total work value of RM1.37 billion,” he said when speaking at the Orang Ulu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OUCCI) Gala Night 2023 held at Riverside Majestic Hotel here last night.

Additionally, this augurs well with the State’s policy to increase at least 30 per cent of Bumiputera contractors’ participation in government contracts.

Uggah was representing Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg as the Guest-of-Honor.

Also present were Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) and Mulu assemblyman Datuk Gerawat Gala, and OUCCI president Datuk Mutang Tagal. – DayakDaily
