KUCHING, July 25: The Sarawak government has approved a RM3.5 million allocation to establish the first hemodialysis centre in Meradong District, set to benefit the local community significantly.

According to a TVS news report, Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing stated that the funds are provided by the government through a special allocation under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP).

“Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has agreed to allocate RM3.5 million from the RTP for the construction of a hemodialysis centre in the Sungai Tulai area.

“The centre will be equipped with various essential facilities, including beds and dialysis machines for patients, including those with hepatitis B and other conditions. The completion of this centre will be a welcome relief for kidney patients,” he was quoted as saying.

Ding made the announcement following a meeting yesterday (July 24) at the Meradong District Office in Bintangor to discuss the project’s details.

He further emphasised that the establishment of this centre reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to easing the burdens of the people, particularly kidney patients not only in Bintangor but also in nearby districts.

He acknowledged that while government hospitals offer free services, some patients, especially those from remote villages and longhouses, incur additional expenses for treatment.

The meeting also addressed solutions to improve public convenience during the ongoing construction of a new road at Batu Empat, Jalan Kelupu, which has necessitated the use of alternative routes. — DayakDaily
