KUCHING, Oct 13: The Sarawak government is allocating RM2.5 million in assistance under ‘Bantuan Ehsan Kebakaran’ to help rebuild Majang Ringkai Longhouse in Sibuti, which was destroyed in a fire in 2017.

According to a news report from the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) today, Ministry of Welfare, Community Well-being, Women, Family and Childhood Development (KWKPK) assistant minister Datuk Rosey Yunus said the allocation is part of the Sarawak government’s initiatives to help those who are affected by fires.

“This assistance will take a while to be implemented because it is given based on rotation. But interestingly, the ‘Bantuan Ehsan Kebakaran’ does not have to go through a tender process, and each door of the longhouse is eligible to received an allocation of RM50,000,” she said in her speech during the handing over of the ‘Bantuan Ehsan Kebakaran’ cheque for Subis district 2021, held in Subis District Office, today.

At the same time, the Bekenu assemblywoman has also requested the Subis District Officer to monitor the construction works for the new houses to ensure that it can be completed before Dec 31 this year.

“It is hoped that the assistance from the Sarawak government would be able to help all of them to live in a more comfortable and safe environment,” she added.

In Oct 2017, Rumah Majang Ringkai was completely destroyed in an afternoon blaze together with Rumah Rambai Zali, which is located in Sibuti district. The two longhouses were built side by side with about 450 people living in 81 adjoining homes. — DayakDaily
