SIBU, April 3: The Sarawak government, through Sarawak Social Welfare Department (JKMS), allocated a total of RM1,662,400 in aid for 16,624 recipients celebrating Eid this year.

Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood, and Community Well-being Development Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam at the “Sejambak Kasih Hari Raya” ceremony at MUC Hall here last night, said that Kuching recorded 4,524 recipients, followed by Samarahan (2,486), Serian (349), Sri Aman (734), Betong (2,216), Sarikei (359), Sibu (766), Mukah (2,374), Kapit (98), Bintulu (601), Miri (967), and Limbang (1,157).

At the function, a total of 100 eligible recipients received RM100 and an RM80-worth hamper while those who did not attend the programme will have the aid credited to their account.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Razi advised those celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri to do so in moderation due to the rise in the prices of goods.

“This is in accordance with the Islamic teachings on moderation. Spending should be according to necessity, priority, and one’s capability to ensure continued well-being,” he said.

The Saribas assemblyman also encouraged the public to register their family members with disabilities (OKU) to ensure that they receive assistance from the Social Welfare Department (JKMS).

“The assistance is not limited to those born with disabilities but also extends to those who become disabled due to accidents. Do not hesitate to register them so they can receive support from JKMS,” he said.

Mohammad Razi also presented a Kenyalang Gold Card and an OKU Card to two recipients, respectively.

Also present were Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, Sibu Division welfare officer Tang Kee Lee, Temenggong Datuk Vincent Lau Lee Ming, Temenggong Stanley Gramong Bandar, and others. — DayakDaily
