“While we are happy to celebrate Hari Gawai, my family and I also want to remind us to be careful on our way back to our respective hometowns.

“Moreover, now that we have more comfortable road connectivity, let’s not turn the Pan Borneo Highway into a race track.

“Biarlah lambat asalkan selamat (It doesn’t matter if it is slow as long as it is safe),” he said in a Gawai Dayak message today.

He also reminded the people to obey all traffic rules and make sure that their vehicles are in good condition before starting their journey.

At the same time, he also called on all Sarawakians returning to their hometowns for Gawai to become agents of community development by spreading the importance of education.

“Let us spread the word about all the various education initiatives planned by the Sarawak government, led by the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, to make Sarawak a developed region by 2030,” he said.

He was referring to the establishment of five higher education institutions owned by the Sarawak government, namely Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak (Swinburne Sarawak), University of Technology Sarawak (UTS), Curtin University, i-Cats University College, and Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (Centexs).

He also said the five Sarawak-owned international schools in Petra Jaya, Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu and Miri will certainly be able to help the community take steps to ensure that children in school are prepared to realise the various initiatives through education. — DayakDaily
