KUCHING, July 23: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is confident that when fully implemented in ten years, the Sarawak Gas Roadmap (SGR) can attract RM300 billion in investments and generate output valued at RM120 billion from the product and service chains.

In his speech at the 2025 Sarawak Day Assembly in Miri on Tuesday (July 22), he said that as a result, new industries will also be established, especially in the renewable energy sector, to generate up to 15,000 megawatts of power by 2035, not only for domestic use but also for export to ASEAN countries.

“The GPS government will continue to ensure that the State’s resources are given added value by establishing downstream industries, particularly in the oil and gas sector, guided by the long-term SGR.

“I am confident that this effort to add value to the State’s natural resources will drive Sarawak’s economy and provide many job opportunities for Sarawak’s youth, thereby increasing household incomes across the State and dispelling criticisms from certain parties that Sarawak is a ‘rich state but with poor people’,” he said.
