KUCHING, Feb 13: The RM1,000 financial aid will be disbursed to heads of households impacted by the flood disaster once the official list of affected families is finalised, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas says.

According to a news report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Uggah, who is also chairman of the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) stated that this assistance would be channeled through the respective District Resident offices, involving a total of 4,966 heads of households throughout Sarawak.

Uggah stated that SDMC has so far received RM12.8 million from the Prime Minister’s Office, RM10 million from the Sarawak government, while RM2.45 million was contributed by the private sector, including Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (PETROS).

“This assistance will be distributed as soon as possible because we have already received the allocation, but we are still waiting for the list to be confirmed.”

“Previously, we had decided that each heads of households who moves to the temporary evacuation center (PPS) will be given RM1,000 as announced by the Deputy Prime Minister, Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof, where the allocation of RM2.8 million has already been channeled to the Sarawak government for distribution for that purpose,” he said during a press conference after the Sarawak Flood Disaster Relief 2025 Aid Presentation Ceremony from the National Welfare Foundation (YKN).

Meanwhile, YKN announced that it has added RM300,000 to the pool of fund reliefs for flood victims across Sarawak.

Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Dato Sri Nancy Shukri who was present to hand over the financial aid to the Sarawak government, said: “This assistance will be channeled directly to the SDMC account because we believe SDMC knows better how to manage this contribution later, as we understand that RM300,000 is insufficient when we look at the situation in Bintulu, Miri, and other affected areas.

“Therefore, by doing so, we are making a contribution through the SDMC as the representative of the Sarawak government, so that they can arrange their management methods later.”

Nancy Shukri, who is also the chairperson of YKN, stated that this contribution is the result of close cooperation with corporate entities and individuals who are concerned about the welfare of disaster victims, as a sign of solidarity and support from YKN to the Sarawak government and the affected flood victims.

Among those present during the event were Deputy State Secretary (Administration) Datu Buckland Bangik, and YKN chief executive officer Nordina Haron. – DayakDaily
