KUCHING, Jan 31: The number of flood victims in Sarawak now stands at 9,398 evacuees from 2,725 families—an increase from 7,503 evacuees from 2,096 families—with 56 active temporary evacuation centres (PPS).
In a statement, the Sarawak Malaysia Civil Defence Department (APM) said that as of 5am today, the number of temporary evacuation centres (PPS) is increasing following the rising trend of victim evacuations.
Of all PPS in six divisions in Sarawak (Bintulu, Serian, Samarahan, Kuching, Miri, and Sibu), Bintulu and Serian recorded the most victims at 4,605 and 2,035, respectively.
In addition, among all PPS opened in Bintulu, the one at the Bintulu Civic Centre has the most evacuees at 1,103.
As for Samarahan, two PPS have opened which are SK Haji Kekali Semera with 33 evacuees and PPS Dewan Sri Budaya Niup with 10.
Meanwhile, the number of landslide victims at the PPS Pusat Bulan Sabit Merah and PPS Dewan Kampung Sukan in Miri remains at 105 dan 24 as of this morning, respectively.
In Sibu, the number of victims affected by the fire who were housed at PPS Dewan Datuk Aaron, Bawan Kanowit remains at 37. — DayakDaily
