KUCHING, May 29: Sarawak has officially launched the first-ever Sarawak Sustainability Blueprint 2030, a landmark initiative and the first of its kind by any Malaysian state, charting an ambitious course to embed sustainability into the very core of its society and economy.

Unveiled by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the Asia Carbon Conference (ACC) 2025 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today, the Blueprint presents a comprehensive, strategic roadmap developed by the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability.

“This comprehensive document, meticulously crafted and recently finalised by our Ministry, serves as our strategic roadmap for Sarawak’s profound transition to a green economy,” said Abang Johari during his keynote address.

Structured around 10 strategic thrusts, 48 strategies, and 111 actionable plans, the Blueprint focuses on key pillars of sustainable development.

These include accelerating the renewable energy transition, advancing carbon capture and storage (CCS), enhancing forest and land conservation, promoting green industries and investments, developing sustainable cities through circular economy practices, and preparing a future-ready workforce through education, skills development, and research.

As Malaysia prepares to take up the Asean Chairmanship in 2025 under the theme “Inclusivity and Sustainability”, Abang Johari expressed Sarawak’s commitment to support the nation’s regional leadership in driving the green economy agenda.

“Our advanced renewable energy capacity, pioneering carbon management frameworks, and leadership in CCUS (carbon capture, utilisation and storage) position Sarawak as a crucial partner in demonstrating how Asean can achieve sustainable growth and address climate change collaboratively.

“And our message is simple: Sarawak is ready,” he affirmed.

He extended an open invitation to partners, investors, innovators, and like-minded nations to join Sarawak on its journey toward a green and resilient future.

“Sarawak is open for business, and more importantly, Sarawak is open for collaboration,” he said.

The Premier further reiterated Sarawak’s aspiration to become a global model in realising the vast potential of a green economy — balancing economic progress, environmental stewardship, and climate action.

“This is not just Sarawak’s carbon journey. This is our contribution to the planet and to future generations,” he concluded.

Among the distinguished guests present were Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, and EVP Asia of Argus Media and ACC 2025 organiser Jamie Balderston. — DayakDaily
