KUCHING, June 28: The establishment of the Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Brunei (STATOB) has been firmed up during the meeting on bilateral cooperation between Sarawak and Brunei Darussalam today.
Sarawak Deputy Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Brunei’s Second Minister of Foreign Affairs Dato Seri Setia Awang Erywan Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Mohd Yusof have expressed readiness to further strengthen trade and economic cooperations during the meeting at Wisma Bapa Malaysia.
According to a media release, the STATOB, which will open soon in Bandar Seri Begawan, will further enhance the bilateral ties between Sarawak and Brunei.
The meeting, which lasted over two hours, also addressed several issues, including energy development, telecommunications, commercial agriculture, tourism, and the development of the Northern Coastal Highway network.
Both parties are optimistic that the highway network, connecting Sarawak and Brunei, will spur greater economic activities and shared prosperity.
Other attendees at the meeting included the Consul General of Brunei Darussalam to Sarawak Sheikh Abdul Mahdani Sheikh Abdul Gani, Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Abu Bakar Marzuki, permanent secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development Datu Abdullah Julaihi, and Sarawak Economic Planning Unit director Datu Lester Matthew. — DayakDaily
