Sarawak eyes 68 gold medals in para Sukma Johor 2022

KUCHING, Sept 2: Sarawak has set a target of 68 gold medals for the coming para Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Johor next year.

In saying this, Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Child Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the State’s para athletes and teams are preparing to top the medal table for the 14th time.

“The training reports from all of the para athletes and coaches are encouraging. Sarawak will take part in all of the events offered in para Sukma Johor 2022, and we are targeting a total of 68 gold medals,” she said in a statement today.


Earlier today, Fatimah held a Zoom session with the Sarawak Para Sukma athletes who provided updates on their training progress and preparation.

Fatimah revealed that among the events which Sarawak para athletes will compete in are field and tracks event, swimming, ping pong, 10-pin bowling, lawn bowling, Boccia, chess, powerlifting, and archery.

“We will go to Johor to continue our glorious achievement and all Sarawak para Sukma teams must continue to work together,” she added.

Meanwhile, Fatimah also encouraged all Sarawakian para athletes to continue their preparation not only for Sukma Johor 2022, but also for the ASEAN Para Games 2022 in Vietnam and ASIA Para Games 2022 in China.

“To all Sarawakian para athletes who have qualified for the coming ASEAN Para Games Vietnam 2022 and ASIA Para Games China 2022, continue with your preparation and train yourselves properly in order to achieved the objective,” she added. — DayakDaily
