KUCHING, July 15: Sarawak is pursuing strategic collaborations in water, electricity, telecommunication, and the space industry as a delegation led by State Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi embarks on a technical working visit to Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Hainan, China from July 14 to 18, 2025.
According to a press release, the working visit aims to strengthen collaboration, explore innovative technologies, and gain strategic insights into global best practices across key utility sectors.
The visit includes site visits to major infrastructure and advanced technology facilities, such as the Nansha Huangge Smart Water Treatment Plant, Shenzhen Pumped Storage Power Station, Wenchang International Aerospace City, and the China National Space Administration (CNSA).
The delegation will also hold collaboration meetings with government leaders and department heads in the three Chinese cities.
The delegation has successfully conducted site visits to key facilities in Guangzhou, including the Guangzhou Nansha Nanyue Water: Huangge Water Treatment Plant Phase II – Yuehai Kerong Smart Water and the Guangzhou Lijiao Sewerage Water Treatment Plant, two of China’s leading facilities in advanced water treatment and smart water management.
The press release noted that the visits provided valuable opportunities to study how smart systems, automation, and integrated designs contribute to sustainable and efficient urban water services.
“This technical working visit is part of our Ministry’s commitment to exploring international best practices and advanced technologies in the fields of water supply, electricity supply, telecommunication, and space industry.
“We look forward to exploring potential partnerships with relevant agencies or companies in Guangzhou, particularly in areas such as capacity building, joint pilot projects, and the adoption of advanced technologies,” said Julaihi during the collaboration meeting with Guangzhou government leaders and department heads.
He also expressed strong interest in future cooperation and technical exchanges, emphasising the Ministry’s commitment to continuous improvement and innovation in delivering world-class utility services across Sarawak.
The Sarawak delegation includes Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak (Telecommunication) Datuk Liwan Lagang; Deputy Minister for Utility (Sarawak Energy Berhad and PETROS) Dato Ibrahim Baki; State Financial Secretary Dato Sri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar; Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Datu Jafri Lias; Director of Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) Ir Ts Awg Mohammad Fadillah Awg Redzuan; Director of Sarawak Civil Service Digitalisation Unit (SCSDU) Huong Siu Hung; General Manager of Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) Dato Dr Anderson Tiong Ing Heng; Chief Executive Officer of SEB Power Ir Bunyak Lunyong; and senior officers from the Ministry, relevant departments, and agencies. — DayakDaily
