KUCHING, Dec 17: The Sarawak government is currently exploring new collaboration opportunities with America’s leading aerospace company, Boeing, in the aviation sector as well as in the research and development of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
In a news report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg stated that this initiative aligns with the Sarawak’s efforts to establish its own airline company.
He further highlighted that Sarawak is actively focusing on developing SAF as an alternative fuel for the aviation industry, in collaboration with Chitose Group and ENEOS Corporation (ENEOS) in hydrogen production.
“We had discussions earlier with Boeing’s Japan branch, and they presented several proposals. Boeing serves as a key hub for aviation developments involving their aircraft, and they have partnerships with Boeing in Singapore and a network across Southeast Asia.
“Today, we are exploring potential opportunities for collaboration between Boeing and Sarawak as we work towards establishing our own airline,” he said after meeting with Boeing Japan president Eric G. John, at the company’s headquarters in Tokyo, Japan today (Dec 17).
However, Abang Johari emphasised that the new collaboration on development and research is still in the early stages.
“We will explore together what we (Sarawak and Boeing) can achieve, particularly in SAF and renewable energy,” he added.
Accompanying the Premier in the discussions were Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Minister for Utility and Telecommunications Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, Deputy Minister for International Trade, Industry, and Investment Datuk Dr Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, and Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni.
Also present were Sarawak’s Attorney General Dato Sri Saferi Ali, Sarawak Financial Secretary Dato Sri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, Deputy Secretary for Economic Planning and Development Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, and senior officials of the Sarawak government. — DayakDaily
