KUCHING, Sept 8: Sarawak Energy Berhad (Sarawak Energy) has granted scholarships worth RM16 million to 207 outstanding students and employees through its 2023 scholarship programme.
These scholarships will support their educational pursuits both locally and overseas, covering a wide range of academic disciplines.
Sarawak Energy group chief executive officer Sharbini Suhaili emphasised the company’s commitment to promoting ‘Education and Young People’ as a fundamental aspect of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, underlining its role as a responsible corporate citizen.
He noted that since 2014, Sarawak Energy has awarded a total of 1,058 scholarships, helping Sarawak’s youth realize their potential and ambitions.
This, in turn, aligns with the Sarawak Government’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS 2030), contributing to the development of a brighter, more prosperous high-income society in Sarawak.
To ensure equitable distribution of scholarships, Sarawak Energy employs a diversity-focused approach in its selection process, fostering inclusiveness across genders, racial backgrounds, and socio-economic classes.
Sharbini highlighted the importance of these scholarships not only in benefiting the recipients but also in building the capabilities of Sarawak Energy’s workforce. The knowledge and skills acquired through these scholarships enable employees to perform better, enhancing overall productivity.
Out of the 207 scholarship recipients, 16 are Sarawak Energy employees, offering them the opportunity to advance their education and expand their skill sets. — DayakDaily
