KUCHING, July 4: Sarawak Energy’s Annual Report 2017 received Silver at the 69th Australasian Reporting Awards (ARA) themed ‘Celebrating Excellence in Reporting”‘ in Melbourne recently.

The ARAs provide organisations that produce annual reports the opportunity to benchmark their reports against world best practices.

Sarawak Energy, according to a media release yesterday, was among companies in the region who met demanding ARA criteria while providing satisfactory coverage and presenting quality disclosures.

Sarawak Energy’s group chief executive officer Datu Sharbini Suhaili said: “Our report records the achievements and challenges of that particular year and showcases our journey as we progress our three-year strategic roadmap and our key focus areas.

“We are benchmarked against peers, listed and international companies and are pleased that our publication has met the standards of this international award.”

This award, he emphasised, elevated how Sarawak Energy is perceived by its stakeholders, particularly existing and potential investors, adding value to their understanding of its business.

Executive vice-president of corporate services Aisah Eden pointed out that as a non-listed public entity, Sarawak Energy was not bound by the regulated disclosure requirements of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad.

“However, in the spirit of transparency, good corporate citizenship and good governance practices, we continue to publish our annual and sustainability reports on a purely voluntary basis and provide a balanced view of our activities.

“This demonstrates a great effort from the team for producing a quality annual report that is clear, concise and informative,” she said.

The prestigious awards have been organised for over 60 years and were administered by Australasian Reporting Awards Limited, an independent non-profit organisation run by volunteer professionals from the business, government and non-profit sectors.

They were supported by various professional bodies concerned with the quality of financial and business reporting.

The award marked Sarawak Energy’s third international recognition for its annual report.
