KUCHING, Oct 13: The Sarawak Digital Economy Framework 2030 will probably be launched by Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in a month’s time or so.

This was disclosed by Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) chief scientist and chief advisor Prof Judgutt (Jack) Singh during his keynote address titled ‘Data & Innovation Driven Economy’ at the Borneo Corporate Innovation Summit (BCIS) 2022 at Tegas Digital Village (TDV) here today.

“I’m hoping that this new blueprint will be launched in a month or so by the Premier,” he said.

Jack elaborated that the new blueprint builds on the existing Sarawak Digital Economy Strategy 2018-2022 which was launched in Dec 2017 and is due to end soon.

He also said that the framework is designed to be in line not only with the local Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, but also national and global blueprints such as in Canada, Australia, Singapore, UK and South Korea.

“Basically what we’re looking at is for Sarawak to be a leading digital economy and society by 2030. The idea is to make sure that we are (Sarawak is) a part of the global ecosystem,” he said.

Jack said the roadmap towards 2030 is based on five strategic pillars, of which include economic growth priorities, business development, public sector and services, and adoption of frontier technologies.

There were also four foundations identified for Sarawak’s digital economy advancement, namely digital infrastructure and connectivity, research, innovation and entrepreneurship, digital skills, talent and inclusivity, as well as data governance and cyber security.

Today, over 100 corporate players and stakeholders attended BCIS 2022, which is Borneo’s first corporate innovation summit gathering some 15 visionary leaders in one place to talk about the future of business and innovation.

The opening ceremony was officiated at by Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh earlier this morning.
