KUCHING, Sept 7: Education, Innovation and Talent Development Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee has shared a recent extraordinary experience where he assisted a woman who had breathing difficulties due to asthma on his flight from Kuching to Kuala Lumpur.
On Sept 6, Dr Annuar had boarded a flight from Kuching to Kuala Lumpur (MH2521) when the cabin crew made an emergency announcement.
āAre there any medical personnel or a doctor on board? Please identify yourself. (A passenger) needs urgent medical attention,ā said the flight attendant.
Instantly, Dr Annuar responded, stating that he was a medical doctor by training and asked if there was anything he could do to help.
He then shared the conversation between the air-stewardess and himself on his social media page.
Stewardess: Are you a PhD doctor or a medical doctor?
Dr Annuar: I’m a medical doctor.
Stewardess: Can I have an ID card to confirm?
Dr Annuar: We don’t have an ID card as a doctor.
Stewardess: Any card carrying your name as a doctor?
He produced a credit card with the name ‘Dr Annuar Rapaee’.
It was then that the stewardess informed him that there was a passenger on board the flight who was experiencing difficulty breathing.
Without hesitation, Dr Annuar examined the passenger, who was a woman suffering from asthma.
āShe needed an inhaler or a nebuliser. Thank goodness that there was a passenger who did carry an inhaler.
āAfter a few puffs, the patient still showed signs of shortness of breath. But thank God that the Malaysia Airline (MAS) emergency kit was complete and contained a nebuliser. The patient took a few puffs and she was soon breathing fine,ā said Dr Annuar, who is also Nangka assemblyman.
The patient arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport safely.
Dr Annuar then humorously explained that he, however, was delayed, as he had some paperwork to complete before he could leave.
āAfter that, I had to fill out four copies of medical reports!ā ā DayakDaily
