Sarawak delegation explores Great Barrier Reef, crocodile management in Australia

KUCHING, Aug 10: The Sarawak delegation, led by Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, has recently visited the iconic Great Barrier Reef in Australia as part of their ongoing benchmarking visit.

According to a press release, the visit yesterday (Aug 9) was intended to study marine conservation efforts and the integration of tourism with environmental preservation.

“The delegation gained insights into reef protection strategies briefed by local marine biologists.

“This was followed by a visit to Marineland Melanesia Croc Park, renowned for housing the world’s largest captive crocodile, where they were briefed on crocodile conservation by the owner, Toody,” the release stated.

Meanwhile, Awang Tengah, who is also Second Minister for Natural Resources and Urban Development, was quoted as saying: “The Great Barrier Reef and Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures offer exemplary models of conservation and sustainable tourism, providing valuable lessons for Sarawak’s own initiatives.”

The day concluded with an engaging session at Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures, where the delegation met with representatives from Queensland’s Department of Environment Science & Innovation (DESI).

The discussions focused on innovative practices in crocodile management and the potential for retail opportunities in crocodile products, further underscoring Sarawak’s commitment to sustainable development and the adoption of global best practices in natural resource management. — DayakDaily
