KUCHING, Sept 13: A delegation led by Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Julaihi Narawi attended the World Water Congress in Copenhagen, Demark, a 5-day conference themed “Water for Smart Liveable Cities” organised by the International Water Association (IWA) from Sept 11 to Sept 15, 2022.
According to a press statement, the conference was attended by approximately 3,800 delegates from 102 countries, as well as 330 exhibitors.
IWA is a world recognised body benchmark for reference by the water and sanitation industry.
The biennial conference brings together water professionals to re-connect the water-consuming industry, agriculture, architects and urban planners, hydrologists and soil and groundwater experts, social sciences, ICT-sector, financial sector, and others in pursuit of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
“This conference is timely and relevant as Sarawak’s water industry is undergoing transformational changes.
“We are implementing the Sarawak-wide water grid system, establishing a water supply single-entity and a corporate body as tegulator, and embracing digitalisation,” Julaihi said, adding that all of the initiatives are aimed at creating a resilient water supply system.
“By acquiring global knowledge and experiences, we hope to put in place a system that is reliable, economical, and sustainable throughout Sarawak to uplift the economy and social well-being of the rakyat.
“This is in line with initiatives under our Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy or PCDS 2030,” he said.
Also in the delegation were Deputy Minister for Utility Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Deputy Minister for Telecommunication Datuk Liwan Lagang, Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration, and Environment, Datuk Len Talif Salleh, senior officers from Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication, Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development, water, and other related agencies. — DayakDaily
