Sarawak declares two more active Covid-19 clusters, 83 in total

KUCHING, May 20: SDMC today declared two new clusters in Serian and Kuching, involving a total of 46 individuals who were found positive for Covid-19.

According to the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement today, the two clusters are the Tebakang Cluster in Serian and Kenyalang Park Cluster in Kuching.

“The Tebakang Cluster is a community cluster that detected in Kampung Tebakang Melayu where a total of 78 individuals have been screened and 19 cases were found to be positive for Covid-19, including the index case; 54 cases were negative, and five cases are still waiting laboratory test results.


“Active case detection is still ongoing and all 19 positive cases have been admitted to the Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) in Serian,” it said.

As for the Kenyalang Park cluster, SDMC said a total of 65 individuals have been screened with 27 positive cases detected, including the index case, while 38 others tested negative.

“All of the positive Covid-19 cases have been referred to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and were admitted to the PKRC in Kuching for isolation and treatment,” the statement noted.

On the same note, SDMC disclosed the State Health Department (JKNS) has declared the end of three clusters namely the Jalan Baji Cluster in Sarikei, Nanga Kelangas Cluster in Julau and Taman Mesra Bako Cluster in Kuching, as zero new cases were detected or reported from the three clusters in the past 28 days.

“As of today, a total of 83 clusters remain active in the state, with 11 clusters recording an additional 66 new cases, while 72 other clusters recorded zero new cases,” it added. –DayakDaily.
