KUCHING, Jan 16: Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) will place youth members aged 18 to 28 under its highest decision-making body which is the Sarawak DAP State Committee instead of under a subsidiary or secondary group.

Its chairman Chong Chieng Jen implied that this is a better outcome compared to the decision taken by other political parties to set up a youth wing as a subsidiary body catering to those aged between 18 to 28.

“We shall invite more in this age group to be in the State Committee, empowering them to make decisions State-wide,” he said in a statement after chairing the Sarawak DAP Ordinary Convention 2022 at Aeroville Mall here today.

He also said the party still holds the record of having the youngest in average age in its highest decision-making committee amongst all political parties in Sarawak.

Chong who is also the Padungan assemblyman further said that it is heartening to see that many of the party’s grassroot leaders, though the party experienced a significant setback in the 12th Sarawak Election, continue to provide services to the people, voice out for the people and continue to fight for the people’s rights.

“We do not vanish after the election. Our leaders continue to be available and can be contacted by the people round the year,” he added.

He also called on Sarawak DAP leaders to advance and adapt with the times in terms of publicity and method of communication.

“While issuing press statements is still an important part of publicity, one cannot deny the increasing importance of Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube in our publicity work.

“In politics, it is not only the content of the communication (sic) which is important, but also equally important is whether such content can effectively reach the people,” he pointed out.

Chong said moving forward, the new DAP State Committee will work hard to regain and win back the trust and confidence of the people in the party. — DayakDaily
