KUCHING, July 25: Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen will seek an update on the repair and upgrade of dilapidated schools in Sarawak from the Finance Ministry, Works Ministry and Education Ministry soon.
Chong, who is a member of the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) on Education, stated that he would bring the matter up to the three ministries in the next PSC meeting.
On July 23, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during a function in Gedong, Samarahan was quoted by various news outlets expressing his disappointment with the Education Ministry for the delay in releasing funds to repair and upgrade dilapidated schools in Sarawak.
Chong also mentioned that all repair and upgrading works, though under the Ministry of Education, are implemented by the Public Works Department (JKR) which is under the Ministry of Works which is helmed by a GPS Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
“It is therefore imperative that the Works Ministry provide the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) and the Sarawak people an update on the matter,” he added. — DayakDaily
