Sarawak Covid-19 rises to 644 as Kuching, Saratok, Miri top the list with 3-digit cases

KUCHING, July 22: The number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak has sprung back to 644 today as Kuching, Saratok and Miri top the daily toll with three-digit figures.

According to the reports from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), Kuching recorded 258 new cases, Saratok with 131 cases and Miri with 126 cases.


The high caseload was due to targeted screenings at several localities under Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) namely Kampung Seratau in Kuching (145 cases), Rh Kambieng, Abu Bengang, Krian in Saratok (126 cases), Miri Central Prison (120 cases) and Sri Aman Central Prison (25 cases).

Other districts that saw double-digit case numbers were Sri Aman (27), Sibu (22), Samarahan (15), Serian (12) and Bau (12).

The remaining 15 districts with new infections today included Betong (7), Pakan (4), Lundu (4), Kapit (4), Sarikei (4), Telang Usan (4), Bintulu (2), Lawas (2), Meradong (2), Beluru (2), Subis (2), Song (1), Tebedu (1), Bukit Mabong (1) and Selangau (1).

With that, SDMC said the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak as of today stands at 72,857.

“Out of the 644 patients today, 305 were detected following close contact screenings where 25 of them were symptomatic.

“Another 288 cases were of individual screenings from active clusters where 12 showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection.

“Adding on, there were 26 cases that were of symptomatic screenings from health facilities, 21 cases were from other screenings in health facilities, three Import-B cases and one Import-A case,” it said in the statement on Covid-19 update today.

Zero fatality due to Covid-19 was reported today, thus the death toll remained at 450.

Meanwhile, 486 patients were discharged from hospitals across Sarawak, so there remain 4,474 active cases in isolation or treatment.

On Covid-19 zones, Sarawak now has 19 red, four orange, 13 yellow and four green zones. Tanjung Manis, Limbang, Lawas and Daro are the only safe zones as of today. — Dayakdaily
