KUCHING, May 23: A Hari Raya gathering of five families with approximately 34 close family members on May 13 has produced the first Hari Raya Aidilfitri cluster in Sarawak dubbed the Taman Sourabaya Indah Cluster.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said this community cluster, as of today, reported nine positive cases including the index case.

A total of 34 individuals were screened, with 22 returning negative results and three samples awaiting laboratory test results.

“The screening result of close contacts of the index case and the family members who attended the Hari Raya celebration on May 13 found an increase of eight individuals who were Covid-19 positive including the seven cases just reported today,” said SDMC in a statement today.

The committee gave assurance that all the Covid-19 patients were admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) or the Kuching Low-Risk Quarantine and Treatment Centre (PKRC) for isolation and treatment purposes.

The Taman Sourabaya Indah Cluster was one of two Hari Raya Aidilfitri clusters declared today in Kuching with the other known as the Jalan Jambatan Gantung Cluster.

Not only that, there were two other Covid-19 clusters reported with one in Kanowit and the other in Pakan. Both of them were clusters involving local longhouses.

With that, the number of active clusters in Sarawak increased to 84 today with eight of them registering 83 new cases. — DayakDaily
