KUCHING, March 16: Executive coaching is being introduced to the Sarawak Civil Service (SCS) as a means of supporting transformation towards achieving Sarawak’s 2030 aspiration.
Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the leaders of SCS will be hearing from renowned Master Certified Coach Dr Marcia Reynolds about executive coaching today.
He said executive coaching is the latest ‘thinking technology’ which nurtures the ability to think with clarity, far ahead, creatively, strategically and pragmatically, which is essential in driving impact and innovation.
“Coaching has been (behind) the success of many world’s big names. Pandelela (Rinong), Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey—just to mention a few big names who have openly attributed their tremendous success to their coaches.
“Executive coaching has been (part of) the ‘road-to-success culture’ in many 500 Fortune companies. Coaching has been making headlines in major world leadership magazines such as Harvard Business Review and Forbes,” he said.
That is why, Abang Johari said, executive coaching will help SCS to accelerate leadership performance and transformation, to achieve the developed Sarawak 2030 aspiration.
Through this initiative, coaching is implemented in seamless integration with training, mentoring and counselling, to provide wholesome and powerful leadership development intervention, to build the required leadership capabilities and capacity.
“SCS leadership development must reap the benefits of coaching which is integrated into broader talent development processes to unleash all potential to achieve high-performance service delivery to our rakyat premised on an aggressive well-being platform for both ’employee and organisation’,” he said in his opening speech at the closed-door “Transformation via Conversations” Supporting SCS Leadership Transformation via Coaching session at a local hotel here today.
Abang Johari’s speech text was read out by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas who was representing Abang Johari at the function.
Among other dignitaries present were Deputy State Secretary (Performance and Service Delivery Transformation) Datu Dr Sabariah Putit, Deputy Minister in the Office of the Premier of Sarawak (Labor, Immigration and Project Monitoring) Dato Gerawat Gala, Leadership Institute of Sarawak Civil Service chief executive officer (CEO) Ismail Said, and State Human Resource Unit director Datu Ismail Mohamad Hanis. — DayakDaily
