KUCHING, April 11: The governments of Sarawak and Canada will continue to strengthen cooperation, particularly in the development of sustainable energy, between the two parties.

According to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), the High Commissioner of Canada to Malaysia, Jodi Robinson, said both sides now share a common direction—to ensure the development of sustainable energy by fully leveraging existing resources in planning the next steps of this collaboration.

“Today’s visit is to reinforce the relationship between Canada and Sarawak, as we have many similarities in terms of energy resource wealth, and both parties are very focused on sustainable energy development. I believe there are many areas where we can work together.

“This meeting serves as an introduction to understand better the types of cooperation prioritised by the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, and how Canada can return and enhance cooperation between Sarawak and Canada, as well as between our country and our partners,” she said.

She said this to reporters after paying a courtesy call on Abang Johari at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.

Robinson said Abang Johari welcomed this cooperation, with the possibility of Canadian companies entering Sarawak in the future to initiate partnerships in various sectors prioritised by the State.

Touching on cooperation in the mining sector, Jodi explained that there have been no new developments so far, but she is confident that with her country’s experience in the industry, this cooperation can continue.

“There are no developments at the moment, but of course, Canada has a lot of experience, including in British Columbia, in the mining sector.

“Therefore, I believe there is much we can do together in the mining industry,” she said. — DayakDaily
