KUCHING, Nov 11: The Sarawak government will construct new housing and facilities for civil servants throughout the State with a scheme value of RM3.55 billion.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the move was part of his administration’s commitment to address the shortage of government housing for civil servants.
“Construction is expected to commence in 2025 with an initial allocation of RM200 million,” he said when tabling the Supply (2025) Bill, 2024 during the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting today.
Beyond housing, the government is implementing a series of initiatives to promote the holistic well-being of civil servants, with a dedicated budget of RM1.8 million for 2025.
As part of its reforms, Abang Johari further said the Sarawak Civil Service (SCS) has adopted the recently introduced Federal Sistem Saraan Perkhidmatan Awam (SSPA), which will see RM67 million allocated in the Sarawak Budget 2025.
Additionally, a special allowance for civil servants will be introduced, with an annual financial impact of RM102 million, recognising the dedication and hard work of Sarawak civil servants.
“In line with this reform, we will be introducing an enhanced Management Performance System for SCS towards creating a result-driven and world-class civil service.
“Therefore, I urge all our civil servants to continue with their dedication and relentless efforts in improving their productivity and delivering effective services to the rakyat (people),” he added. — DayakDaily
